Sky Blue Honored at White House ceremony

Washington, D/C. (July 1, 2010) - Sk Blue FC, the inaugural champions of Women's Professional Soccer, was honored by President Barack Obama in a ceremony Thursday in the East Room of the White House. "This is a pretty exciting time for soccer in America," Obama said. "This team came together when it counted. No matter what obstacles they faced. No matter what disappointment and distractions they had to deal with, they had each other's backs and they stayed focused on the ultimate goal. And that's what teams do." Sky Blue captain and its 2009 coach, Christie Rampone, presented Obama with a Sky Blue jersey with the number "09" and "Obama" across the back. "This recognition is huge for us on the female side," said Rampone. "It's the next step for us. The buzz around the country is there's a lot of people supporting and watching the World Cup. Hopefully, that can transfer to the women's side."

Quicksrike Lady Blues blank Wildcats

Ewing, N.J. (June 17, 2010) – Fans at the College of New Jersey were treated to a very entertaining game of women’s soccer tonight, with a tight battle occurring between two of the top teams in the Northeast Division of the USL W-League’s Eastern Conference. Once the final whistle blew to record 90 minutes of play into the books, the first place Hudson Valley Quickstrike Lady Blues (5-0-0, 15 points) remained atop the division charts by defeating the hometown New Jersey Wildcats (2-1-1, 7 points), 2-0. North Brunswick GK is USA Soccer Network Profile of the Week

Tourette's syndrome, a neurological disease that affects motor function by causing involuntary tics especially during physical activities and excitement, may slow down the average athlete, but hometown legend, Tim Howard of North Brunswick, never allowed his symptoms to interfere with his dream of being the best goalkeeper in the world. Pali Blues begin quest to 3-peat W-League Champions

SANTA MONICA, CA (June 5, 2010) - No team in W-League history has ever captured three titles in a row and the Blues know even the greatest journey starts with a single step. On the heels of the May 22nd’s celebratory exhibition match – featuring the charity Guinness World Record Attempt – the Blues begin their title defense in earnest when the Santa Clarita Blue Heat return to the Stadium-by-the-Sea, this time with points on the line (For more on the three-peat check out the adjacent clip from Fox Soccer Channel on the Blues’ 2010 season).
Fans with young ones are encouraged to arrive at the stadium early as the Girl Scouts of Los Angeles will be offering a variety of fun activities starting at 3pm including on-field warm ups, First Aid lessons, and octopus tag! The Girl Scouts of America will also be collecting USED SOCCER EQUIPMENT (cleats, shin guards, and old jerseys) so be sure to empty your car trunks and closets.
Once the starting whistle blows fans will have a chance to watch the back-to-back national champions in action, featuring a roster bolstered by two stout additions: Michelle Wenino and Midori Isokane. Wenino joins the Blues from the Chicago Red Stars of WPS after four years dominating the Big 12 at Colorado. Midori Isokane is yet another Japanese International, and teammate of Blues marksman Hikari Nakade on the Japanese U-20 team. Fresh off a 10 hour flight Midori stepped onto the Blues practice field this weekend and laced two shots from distance into the upper ninety during an end of session scrimmage. Look out W-League, the Blues are coming!

Sky Blue FC Goalkeeper is first 'Keeper to Win WPS POTM Award

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (June 3, 2010) – Sky Blue FC’s goalkeeper Karen Bardsley has been voted WPS Player of the Month for May by the media, becoming the first goalkeeper to nab the honor since the league began awarding the Player of the Month in April 2009. Bardsley was solid all month in the net for her New Jersey-side, leading the defending WPS Champions to a 1-1-2 record for the month with only one loss despite being outshot in all four games by their opponents. Her performance this month was highlighted by a 1-0 shutout win against the Atlanta Beat in which Bardsley made a WPS single-game record 13 saves to lead her team to a victory in Atlanta’s stadium home opener in front of over 7,200 at KSU Soccer Stadium. The performance earned her Player of the Week honors for Week 5. Washington Freedom forward Abby Wambach was second in the voting with FC Gold Pride star Marta also receiving considerable votes among media that cover WPS. The WPS Player of the Month is given at the end of each month throughout the WPS Regular Season.

FC New York announces first PDL affiliate

Garden City, NY (June 1, 2010) - F.C. New York announced today its first USL Premier Development League affiliate will be the Lancaster Rattlers, based in Lancaster, California. The two clubs will exchange best practices, while Lancaster will act as a feeder club for F.C. New York. “Gerald Brunner and the Rattlers have been great; they truly understand what we can achieve. We believe in the partnership and their area of geographic influence,” said Doug Petersen, President of F.C. New York. For players in the Southern California region, being with the Rattlers potentially brings them only a step away from the professional ranks of F.C. New York.
F.C. New York is the new professional soccer team coming to New York in 2011 as part of the United Soccer Leagues. The Lancaster Rattlers were founded in 2006 when United Soccer Leagues (USL) granted a Premier Development League franchise to United Sports Int. Inc.

Sky Blue, Breakers battle to scoreless deadlock

Somerset, NJ (May 29, 2010) – Both Sky Blue FC (3-2-2, 11 points) and the Boston Breakers (1-2-4, 7 points) had its offensive firepower working tonight at Yurcak Field, but the end result of this highly contested match was a scoreless draw. Sky Blue FC did have two faces return to the pitch tonight from injury in forward Tasha Kai and defender Meg Schnur, and both players made major contributions to the action. (Continue)

New Jersey Ranger’s Dominic Reinold named PDL Player of the Week

Tampa, FL (May 26, 2010) United Soccer Leagues announced today the Premier Development League (PDL) Team of the Week honoring New Jersey Rangers forward Dominic Reinold as the Player of the Week. Reinold made Rangers’ history by scoring game-winning goals in consecutive matches. Now in their third season, the Rangers had previously won only two games in both the 2008 and 2009 campaigns. Their record in 2010 now stands at 3-1-0.
Reinold’s first goal of the week came in a 1-0 win over the Hampton Roads Piranhas in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The goal was scored in the 63rd minute off an assist from Steven Keker, who had just come on for Sergio Munoz in the 58th minute. Just 22 hours later, the Rangers took the field opposite the Northern Virginia Royals in Manassas, VA. At the 14-minute mark of that game, New Jersey’s Samson Malijani gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead only to see the Royals storm back with goals that sandwiched the halftime whistle. Down 2-1, Reinold tallied in the 75th minute to knot the game at 2-2.
